Starships & Satellites
Back in the 1960's these were called Sputnik Snacks, after the first
Russian Satellite to be put into space. Basically you just rummage
through the refrigerator and pantry, pulling out everything that's
soft enough to poke onto a toothpick, but sturdy enough not to fall
off. There is an infinite variety from which to choose. Some foods
like cheese and tofu will have to be cut into chunks for easier handling.
Choose several items and arrange them on a platter or in small
individual bowls. Place a small dish of toothpicks in the center and
allow children to build their own starships. Building their own is
more than half the fun.
