Fruit Smoothy

Everyone needs a good method for making fruit smoothies. This is a simple recipe that you can expand on to use up the ingredients that you have in your kitchen. Smoothies are a super way to use up leftover fruit or fruit that is getting so ripe that it must be used up today! I prefer smoothies made with yogurt, but if you don’t have any feel free to use milk, fruit juice or anything else that tickles your fancy. Remember that leftovers make great popsicles.

Fruit Smoothy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups liquid (milk, yogurt, fruit juice, liquid from canned fruit, etc.) in any combination
  • 1 cup fruit; fresh, frozen or canned
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, if desired
  • 4 to 6 ice cubes

Directions

Place all of the ingredients in a blender. Process until smooth. Pour into 2 glasses and serve immediately.

Leftover smoothy may be frozen in popsicle molds for a nutritious and refreshing warm weather pleaser.

Makes 2 or 3 servings.

Following this paragraph are a few variations you might enjoy. Don’t feel like these are set in stone though. Use your own imagination and creativity to come up with some unique ideas all your own.

Orange Banana

Use 2-cups of orange juice for the liquid and 2 bananas for the fruit. If desired add a few drops of vanilla flavoring. Add ice cubes, process and serve.

Apple Banana

Use 2-cups of apple juice for the liquid. Add 1 banana and 1/2 cup applesauce. Add the ice and a dash of cinnamon. Process and serve. If desired, you can replace the applesauce with 1 cored apple. You can leave on the peel for extra fiber, but do make certain you remove the core.

Orange Pineapple

Use 2-cups of orange juice for the liquid. Add 1-cup of crushed pineapple and the ice cubes. Process and serve.

Peaches & Cream

Use 2-cups yogurt or 1-cup each yogurt and milk for the liquid. Add 1-cup of canned peaches with the juice. Add the ice cubes and a few drops of vanilla flavoring. Process until smooth and serve.

Strawberries & Cream

Prepare as for Peaches and Cream above, but replace peaches with fresh or frozen strawberries.

Orange Dream

Use 2-cups yogurt or 1-cup each yogurt and milk for the liquid. Add an undrained can of mandarin orange to the blender. Add the ice cubes, a few drops of vanilla and if desired, 1-tablespoon of sugar. Process until smooth. If desired you may replace the canned oranges with 1 large fresh orange or 2 small ones. Be sure to peel the oranges and pick out the seeds before adding them to the blender.

Mermaid’s Dream

Combine 1-1/2 cups yogurt, an undrained 15-ounce can of pears and 2 to 3 tablespoon lime juice in a blender. Add 1 tablespoon sugar, the ice cubes and a few drops of vanilla flavoring. Process until smooth and serve.

Tutti Fruity Smoothy
